Growing Old Alone

They cry for help, no one came
to their side, so they cry in vain.
Asking for nothing except a smile
to help them through another mile.

They wish loneliness just to end,
reaching out to make a friend.
They're turned away, cast aside.
Pain they feel and broken pride.

There's nothing a man can say
when another just goes away.
Growing older, you're left alone
wondering where all have gone.

Many will be on their final mile
trying to beckon a needing smile.
So open your soul, give a prize
to the hearts of those grown wise.

Someday we'll be in their place
hopefully living without disgrace.
It's sad enough just growing old.
So offer a smile, a pot of gold!
